What is Imouto Nation

Imouto Nation is a site dedicated at the analysis  of the "Imouto Character" in anime.

The site will focus on character's in anime which exhibit traits related to Imouto. We will be discussing how the character interacts with the main character, who often will be an older brother, but may also be an older sister. The Imouto may be a secondary or minor character, but may also be the protagonist or deuteragonist of the show.

What is an Imouto?

Kousaka Kirino

Imouto is the Japanese word for little sister. In anime this character is a character whose one of their defining characteristics is being the younger sister to another character. Imouto characters come in four different forms:

1) The Protagonist/Deutaragonist

The Imouto will be a central character to the story, the character maybe the protagonist, with the older sibling being a deuteragonist or vise-versa. Note that just because a character has an older sibling, that alone does not qualify them as an Imouto, as explained above, being a younger sister must be a defining trait.

2) Secondary Character.

The Imouto will be a character that appears thru out the story, but will not necessarily be a main character. This type of Imouto will often interact with the extended cast of characters and may have her own ambitions and/or arc with in the story.

3) Minor Character.

In here we find the Imouto who is rarely seen in the story, often any an all interactions will be with the older sibling and will have very little interactions with the main cast. This character servers mostly as a conduit to show a different side of the protagonist often not seen when they interact wit the main cast.

4) The Non-Sister Imouto

This is the less seen of the four types. This character will often be a neighborhood child which will appear very infrequently, it is used like the minor character type, but with out the actual sibling connection. Note that just because a character is not blood related does not necessarily make them the non-sister, as any cousin, adopted, or raised together female character could fall under the previous three types.

we will discuss more of each type of Imouto in further detail in future post.
